DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: AES calls government's bluff

AES, one of the power-generating companies in dispute with the government, called its bluff and cut off electricity supplies on 22 June because, AES said, it has not been paid. The company supplies 229MW to the national grid which is already between 600MW and 700MW short of what is needed. The government reckons that demand is around 1,500MW a day. It claims that when everything is going well the industry can generate just over 1,100MW.
